Uzbekistan's GCC MTO and Türkiye's Kale Holding Sign MoU on Buiilding Materials and Chemicals

Tashkent, May X — Gas Chemical Complex based on Methanol-to-Olefin technology (GCC MTO) and Kale Holding A.S. of Turkey have signed a Memorandum of Understanding towards development of the market for building materials and chemicals in Uzbekistan.

The MoU, signed during the Tashkent International Investment Forum, expresses the parties’ mutual interest in developing cooperation in the production, sale and marketing of building materials and building chemicals in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The capacities of the Karakul FEZ, anchor resident of which is the GCC MTO, will allow the parties to implement joint projects more effectively, allowing improved access of domestic consumers to high-quality building materials and building chemicals, increasing the competitiveness of Uzbekistan companies, attracting additional investment and expanding their export potential.

The GCC MTO project is being developed as part of the implementation of the Presidential “Strategy for the Development of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026” and is the core of the Karakul Free Economic Zone. The complex will annually produce more than 1,100,000 tons of polymer raw materials: low-density polyethylene, high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene vinyl acetate and polyethylene terephthalate.

The Karakul Free Economic Zone specializes in projects in the gas chemical industry. The FEZ will produce polymer raw materials and end products based on them (textile products, construction and maintenance materials, medical products, food packaging, etc.). In addition, the FEZ will have facilities for the production of mineral fertilizers, as well as equipment for the gas chemical and petrochemical industries.

The Kale Group, founded in 1957, produces ceramic tiles, ceramic adhesives, cement grouts, water and heat insulators, sealants, foams, ceramic cleaning and maintenance products, industrial floor and surface preparation materials, interior and exterior paints, and decorative exterior stucco in the field of building materials and building chemicals. Joining the aerospace industry in 1987, Kale Group has five companies operating in this field. As a Tier 1 supplier to some of the world’s leading defence and aerospace companies including Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Airbus, Kale Group is also one of the stakeholders in many of Türkiye’s defence and aerospace projects.
