December 14th, within the framework of the scientific and technical conference “Problems, innovative proposals and solutions in the field of chemistry and technology of oil and gas” representatives of the Gas Chemical Complex based on MTO technology presented an innovative model of polymer raw material production, as well as unique technical solutions.
The project will be implemented in the territory of the Free Economic Zone “Karakul” of Bukhara region.
The representative of GCC MTO drew special attention to the unique configuration of the project. Methane, a natural gas that is poor in valuable components, will be used as a base raw material from its own reserves located in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan will implement a unique configuration of the enterprise — production of methanol, olefins, as well as five polymers — all within a single territory, which is a technological breakthrough for the gas chemical industry and will be the object of attention of numerous specialists around the world.
The Complex will become the heart of a gas chemical cluster, implying that not only a producer of polymer raw materials, but also enterprises that will manufacture end products for such important industries as medicine, light industry, automotive production, agriculture, food industry and many other sectors. The cluster model is designed to increase efficiency of production facilities and reduce logistics costs,
The ambitious project to create the GCC MTO is being implemented with the participation of major international companies, including such world leaders in the petrochemical industry as Air Products & Chemicals, ChevronPhillips, Chemtex, Versalis, HaldorTopsoe, Scientific Design, Grace Catalyst Techologies, Sinopec and many others. Ten advanced plants will be built to produce 1,100,000 tonnes of finished products annually — cutting-edge, high quality polymers including high and low density polyethylene, ethylene vinyl acetate, polyethylene terephthalate and polypropylene. Specialists from 19 countries — engineers, designers and builders — are working on the project. At the peak of implementation, about 10,000 people will be building the complex.
The cluster model of Karakul FEZ, where GCC MTO project is being implemented, will serve as a basis for the industrial development of the south of Bukhara region, its transport, logistics and social infrastructure, and the emergence of new energy capacities, in particular, through the use of solar energy.
A staff of highly professional specialists is being formed to manage the plant, including from among residents of Bukhara region. According to the memorandum signed in 2023 between Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology and the GCC, graduates of the institute will have an opportunity to work at the future flagship of Uzbekistan’s gas chemical industry and participate in shaping a new image of the domestic industry.
It is expected that after commissioning of the enterprise, which will employ about 3,000 professional specialists, 10,000 new jobs will be created as a result of cumulative effect throughout the country, and the budget revenues directly or indirectly received as a result of the operation of the enterprise will amount to tens of billions of US dollars.
