Before issuing an approval, experts from the State Expertise carried out a thorough study of all components of the MTO Gas Chemical Complex project, as well as the measures taken to manage the impact of the project on the environment.

Being the prime example of unprecedented international cooperation, environmental protection and sustainable development are among the fundamental tasks for the GCC MTO project.

Approval from the Republican State Expertise once again proves Company’s commitment to the rational use of resources and Project’s compliance with State’s strict environmental norms and standards.

This Approval is the first of three that GCC MTO must receive before official launch. The second one will be issued after the project is reviewed at a more advanced stage of detailed design. The third and final expertise will be carried out directly before the commissioning of GCC MTO.

Previously, consultants Mott MacDonald, with the support from “Ecostandard Expert” LLC, have conducted their own analysis of social and environmental impact of the project, which showed that the practices implemented by the GCC MCC comply with the recommendations of international financial development institutions, including the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This ensures that the GCC MTO meets not only local requirements, but also international standards.

The documents also confirm positive social effects due to creation of new jobs and economic development of the region. It is expected that the implementation of the GCC MTO project will have a multiplier economic effect in the Bukhara region due to an increase of employment rate.

Integrated approach to sustainable development of the GCC MTO that includes not only environmental, health and labor issues, but also focused on human rights, as well as social responsibility and citizens’ wellbeing, has already received recognition at an international level — back in September 2023, the expert council of the Globuc agency has awarded the GCC MTO with the “ESG breakthrough of the Year” award.
