Construction of a gas chemical complex based on MTO technology in Karakul, Bukhara region
The gas chemical complex based on MTO technology is a modern facility created on innovative technologies for processing natural gas with a low content of valuable components and manufacturing plastic products.
The schematic flow diagram includes the following processes. Treated dry natural (commercial) gas is fed to synthesis gas production block of the MeOH unit. Pure oxygen from the air separation unit is directed for synthesis gas recovery. Synthesis gas is converted into methanol at the methanol synthesis block, followed by intermediate goods of the appropriate “MTO-grade” quality. Then methanol is delivered to the MTO (Methanol to Olefin) unit, the heart of the Gas chemical complex. Light olefins (ethylene and propylene) from the MTO unit are further polymerized into Low density polyethylene, High density polyethylene, Ethylene vinyl acetate, Polyethylene terephthalate and Polypropylene.
Selection of MTO technology is driven by the specific composition of natural gas produced on the territory of Uzbekistan, mainly methane with a minimum content of heavier components, such as ethane, propane and butane, which are the main raw materials for gas chemical synthesis.
